It is march, the season of board examinations and I know how most kids are stressed about them. But as someone who has been through the same fate, I can tell that it is not so much the board exam, but the stress and confusion of what to do after them, that drives the students crazy. The students who opted for science-maths in class 11th do not have choice, than to appear for the engineering entrance test, mostly because everyone around them is doing it. Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main is a national level undergraduate entrance examination in India. Approximately 13 lakh students take IIT JEE mains each year, which is even higher than the civil services examination in India. The purpose of JEE Main is to provide admission to various engineering and architecture courses offered by NITs, IIITs, CFTIs, and various other private institutions. There is no specific age limit. For NITs, IIITs and CFTIs admissions, the candidates should have obtained a minimum of 75% aggregate marks or be in the top 20 percentile of their respective boards.

In my opinion, if you are motivated enough to get a good college for yourself you could do the preparations parallel to the board examination as well. You could always take an attempt at the JEE Mains once, the same year that you do class 12th and then take the exam next year to actually ace it. The jee books are advanced and lengthy, so having them in your possession from the beginning makes sense. You can keep track of the syllabus you have covered in the previous months.
